Why CNI, Financial Services and Government Organizations Must Shift their Cyber Defenses from Detection to Prevention.

Cyber threats are accelerating at an unprecedented rate. AI-powered attacks, supply chain compromises, and insider threats are growing threats and there is a legitimate concern that they may quickly outpace traditional cybersecurity defenses. Without proper cyber protection organizations, especially those in Critical National Infrastructure (CNI), financial services, and global government agencies, are left in an increasingly vulnerable position.

The Everfox CYBER360 Report [1] reveals a stark reality:

  • 20% of surveyed organizations suffered a compromise via the supply chain, which rose to 27% in government sectors.
    • One-third of surveyed financial services organizations cited their greatest concern is the risk of an insider threat; an employee, contractor, or other trusted individual abusing authorized access.
      • 64% of surveyed organizations cited that leveraging threat prevention solutions will ultimately reduce the likelihood of costly data breaches and operational disruptions.
        • Perhaps the most alarming stat: 97% of polled organizations experienced a cyber incident in the past year.
          Why Traditional Security Isn’t Enough

Historically, cybersecurity has focused on detection and response. However, today’s threats are faster, more sophisticated, and harder to detect. AI is accelerating phishing, malware, and unknown attacks, making them nearly indistinguishable from legitimate activity. At the same time, organizations are sharing more data than ever, which increases exposure to supply chain compromises and insider threats.

For CNI, financial services, and government agencies, a successful attack doesn’t necessarily just mean financial loss. It can disrupt national security and critical public services.

          Prevention is Now a Necessity

Leaders in high-risk industries are making a critical shift towards proactive cybersecurity measures to:

          • Mitigate AI-driven threats before they breach networks
            • Reduce insider risk and control individual access
              • Secure supply chains and defend against third-party compromises

The CYBER360 Report provides a data-driven roadmap for security leaders navigating this evolving threat landscape. It reveals how organizations in high-risk sectors are future proofing their cybersecurity strategies. And why those that fail to adapt, risk becoming another statistic.

Don’t Be Part of the Majority

Cyber threat actors aren’t waiting. If your organization is a part of the critical national infrastructure, financial services, government, or defense industries, then outdated cybersecurity models likely do not provide the protection you need. It’s time to move beyond detection and invest in preventative cybersecurity solutions that work to secure your most valuable assets before an attack breaches your network.

                About the Research

The CYBER360 Report (opens a new window) was published by Everfox on 12/02/2025 and analyzes the survey results from 1,000 security leaders and IT security practitioners across the US and UK in sectors including government, defense, financial services, and healthcare. The report highlights significant dissatisfaction with legacy, detection-based cybersecurity approaches amid increasing cyberattacks, with almost all (97%) highly regulated organizations reporting a cyber incident between October 2023 and 2024. The survey was conducted in October and November 2024 by Opinion Matters, and 300 senior security leaders and 700 IT security professionals working in heavily regulated industries participated in the survey with a 50/50 split between UK and US respondents.
